Course Details

Art & Design Management presents links between art and business activities focusing on creative strategies. Introduction to business management and managerial skills will be explored for the development of art & design businesses. It will also explore linkage between design and business operations as well as art management. Furthermore, the course will investigate methodologies for bringing creative and innovative art & design products to the market.
The Research Methods course deals with the different research methods focusing on the research methods in art and design, terminology, research concepts and the hypothesis applying advance or scientific methods. Students will be informed to select a topic of their choice and perform a research and develop a comprehensive research proposal.
The Design Theory and Aesthetics course focuses on the different theories of design aesthetics and their impact on the art and design experience. The students will explore historical and contemporary philosophical approaches to aesthetic experience, design creation, and points for reflection are put forward in order to encourage the students to reformulate the themes dealt within the course. Furthermore, local and regional visual culture, are addressed.
This course is an advanced theoretical course that aims to enable students to observe, describe, interpret and analyze different artworks. Students are taught different analytical techniques and study diverse characteristics of contemporary art to reach a personal judgment of the artwork. Students participate in discussions and give presentations about analyzing and criticizing an artwork.
Specialized studio1 course is a practical course to develop students’ understanding of various medium, style, and advance techniques in visual artwork. The course also enhances students’ skills to create and evaluate visual artifacts through sophisticated processes. The course is designed to contextualize art to the Omani and regional culture.
Visual Communication course is a practical course. It uses various methods to create a visual representation of ideas and messages. This course focuses on the expression of the visual elements and icons, signs etc. Communication is a bridge between an idea and its intended audience as seen in any visual art form process in which final presentation are developed in response to needs identified in an initial brief.
Specialized studio 2 course is an advanced practical course in the visual art field, it offer students further investigation of art experiences and exploration in different media. The course is a continuation of Specialized Studio 1, with emphasis on learning art history, aesthetics, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making throughout the course. The course is also developing students’ knowledge about the concept of contemporary art to produce original artwork.
Graduate Thesis project is an advance practical course that includes all knowledge undertaken in previous courses of the program, while using accumulated experience in specialize studio I & II to plan and execution a personal practical art project. Demonstrate compositional aspects and technical concepts related to individual artistic expression that reflects creativity. Students will write a thesis documenting their personal experimentation and execution the artwork along with a personal exhibition.
