Dr. Mohamed Baker got acceptance of two of his paper to be presented entitled: "The emergence of Death Representations in Visual Arts: Stereotypes and Realities" and "The Environment Representations in Contemporary Arab Art: from Rural to the Urban".
The integration of the practice of realism in the Omani industrial sector and the academic theoretical study is one of the Arch. & Interior Design Dept.’s policies. Accordingly, the students of Design Tech. II visited Shams Wood factory in AL Mobaila under the supervision of Dr. Soheir Hegazy, Interior Design Department HoD. The factory is one of the first companies operating in the Sultanate in the field of timber processing.Within the framework of studying materials in Design Technology II course, students learned about the details of woodworking as one of the skills gained in the field of furniture design. During the visit, students saw different stages of timber processing, and manufacturing different types of natural wood. They also knew more about employing computers in manufacturing interior decoration elements, in addition to the implementation of the details ‘drawings. The students also recognized several models of doors and windows, pieces of furniture and wood works. Students identified the different types of natural and manufactured wood besides having more sense of the economic aspect of each type.
Ms. Afsah Idrees presented her paper, which was previously presented in the Imperial College, London on 2nd November, 2015. She discussed one type of Fine Arts which prevailed in South Asia, like Pakistan and some Indian States, which is “Camel carving”. Ms. Afsah proved that the said art started since the pre-historic era. This technique is a mixture of art & craft. Black dyes are used to outline the patterns, and natural colors are used to highlight some prominent areas. Some geometrical vegetal, animal and cosmic motifs are used. This process takes place during the spring season.
As per the recommendation of the External Advisory Committee, Dr. Diaa, gave the Interior Design students a presentation on textile and fabrics in Interior Design.He started the workshop by discussing the sources of fabrics and the main characteristics of each one. He clarified that the natural fabrics could be obtained from vegetation origin like cotton, and it could also be of animal origin like wool, mohair and Kashmir. In addition, other fabrics could be obtained from rock origins such as asbestos & fiberglass. Moreover, fabrics could be synthetic like polyester, nylon and acrylic. Dr. Diaa discussed the main advantages and disadvantages of each type and pointed out the bad effects on health, besides the hazards of using manmade fabrics. Dr. Diaa displayed models of Fabric test instruments to the students. He also did some experiments to show the students how to differentiate between the different types of fabrics.
Dr. Mona Kamal Ismail, Dean of Scientific College of Design opened the exhibition under Mrs. Hiyam Al Shamli, Fashion Design Department instructor and her students. The exhibition was displayed at the college Gallery on 20th December, 2015 lasting for three days.The exhibition includes: 75 design used different raw materials and cloth, dantiel, natural & artificial roses.
Students of Painting IV and Senior Study have developed an exhibition collaboration project with Maharat institution from 17th of November to 6th of December . Under the supervision of Dr. Juan Benosa (Head of Fine Arts Department) and Dr. Covadonga Martinez (Head of Foundation) 22 students have been selected to exhibit their artwork under the supporting of CEO, Sir Charles Shaw, COO, Andrew Basson and Victoria Grainger (Head of English Department) of Maharat training Institute at KOM complex (knowledge Oasis Muscat)
The paper deals with the open space in the most deprived areas; It had the study of the user’s perspectives and perceptions toward their open space through many research methodologies.Moreover, It obtained a use pattern through an observation study held in order to analyze the activities observed in the case study.Finally,a Spatial Graphic analysis had applied on the walkways and paths of the case study.
Mr.Jawaher Chockkalingam held a personal exhibtion on campus entitled "wild horses" . Dr Salim bin khamis al Eassai Consultant in the royal court affairs -Inaugurated the Art exhibition.The exhibition included painting with variety of techniques and sculpture.
Mr.Ayman Humaira has participated in the annual youth exhibition in Oman Fine art society with two acrylic painting (100*140).
