A workshop was conducted at Nizwa University by two of the Fine arts Faculty members of Scientific college of design, Ms.Fareeha & Dr.Reem. It was a three hours workshop that started with the presentation by Dr.Reem and demo practical by Ms.Fareeha.The workshop developed interest in students to paint with watercolor and the feedback was very positive. Dr. Hany Farooq from Nizwa University was present and supported the workshop.

During the first week of Spring 2015-16 semester, faculty member Milenko Ivanovic took students to Muscat International Exhibition Center where interior design exhibit took place. Field trip was intended to help students to be aware of industry standards in material use, fabrication and design. Students have expressed grattitude and participated actively in collecting information during the exhibit.
Interior Design Students attended the 3rd Interior Design Décor Furniture Expo at Oman International Exhibition Center .This visit is organized by Mrs.Aya Abbasi (Architect in SCD ) and accompanied with Arch & Interior Design Instructors ( Dr.Janan – Mr.Akel – Ms.Areej – Ms.Maryam ) and their students for the following courses ( Design Studio 4-5-6-Furniture Design).
Students of design studio V visited Bait Al Dalalil on 18th & 25th of February. This house is part of Bait Al Zubair in Matrah, and it is used as a Cafeteria that serves the whole compass.Rehabilitation and adaptive reuse course of fall semester is addressing a problem of adding new block to the existing house, thus student visited the site to collect important information regarding existing building. Students took dimensions of the existing house to draw plans and sections. Some of students were very active and brought with them laser measure in order to check the height of interior ceilings. They also took pictures of the surrounding buildings and inside the house. They reported some problems concerning circulation, safety and structural factors. Other students drew sketches for some traditional nice details. At the end of the day students were able have some conclusions regarding how to add a new block to the existing building.
The Department of English Language, Basic Sciences and Humanities, Scientific College of Design organized their 1st ELT Symposium under the theme “Striving for Excellence: Innovation and Experience". The symposium took place at the Scientific College of Design campus, on Thursday, March 3, 2016.This symposium provided a platform for language professionals to share their insights and practices. Invitation for submission of papers was open to all ELT professionals. The sub-themes of the symposium were Innovative Pedagogical Approaches, Creativity in the classroom, Assessment in ELT, Challenges in the teaching-learning process and Sharing GFP Framework
SCD students visited Muscat Book Fair on 1st March, 2016. This opportunity gave students to get to know on different books available in Muscat market and also latest editions.SCD faculty also visited the exhibition and chose to buy text books to add on to SCD library.
Graphic Design IV students visited The National Museum.
Senior Study Students visited two different Art Galleries, Gallery Sarah and Stall Gallery. Students analyzed the differences in each gallery from a traditional to a more contemporary one that promotes visual art programs. The objective of the visit was to show students the art that is exhibited in Oman, how galleries select the artwork, the activities that they organize and the requirements that they call for to exhibit or how to work in these two galleries.
Mrs. Ayah Al Abbasi represented SCD at a conference in Lecce, Italy with a paper entitled "Open Space Quality in Deprived Urban Areas: User Perspective and Use Pattern" by ELSEVIER through their world-wide famous database www.Sciencedirect.com . It is worth mentioning that she is the lead author of the paper with coauthors from SQU, Muscat, and Heriot-Watt University, UK.
