Dr. Harini Methuku, Head of Quality Assurance & Enhancement Unit attended Program Assessment in Higher Education Workshop organized by CLICKS from 10th to 12th October, 2016 in Dubai, UAE. The program gave keen inputs on standards and requirements from various regional and international accreditation bodies’ in relation to the stipulation of learning outcomes, program assessment and continuous improvement. Range of topics covered in the workshop are:

  • Program assessment fundamentals 
  • Designing assessment plans 
  • Direct versus indirect assessment
  • Writing and reviewing learning goals and outcomes
  • Data collection
  • Survey design 
  • Qualitative and quantitative analysis
  • Writing effective reports and communicating results 
  • Developing improvement plans 
  • Closing the loop

SCD contributed with posters, caricatures, installations, and life painting performance during the opening of the annual Traffic Safety Exhibition held at the exhibition center

The Ministry of Higher Education participated in the annual Traffic Safety Exhibition held at the exhibition center from Tuesday the 18th to Thursday the 20th of October 2016.

The Ministry requested the Scientific College of Design to help with setting up and organizing their partition in the exhibition, and to participle with posters and other art work.

The college contributed with posters, caricatures, installations and life painting performance during the opening done by some of our talented students.

The Dean, deputy Dean and head of Fine Arts department attended the opening, where the participation and contribution made by the college were highly appraised by the Ministry of Higher Education.

SCD orientation program gradually introduce new students to life at the College, from academics, other activities, resources and support services

The orientation program is designed to support freshman students as they begin their journey at SCD. During the course of the program, we gradually introduce new students to life at the College, from academics, other activities, resources and support services. The orientation program included a short film visually making students giving details on activities conducted, exhibitions organized, student project work, jury sessions etc. Orientation Program continued with presentations given by:

Dr. Mona Ismail, Dean by giving a welcome speech to freshman students to SCD family and gave a presentation briefing students mission, vision, objectives  and outlined generic graduate’s attributes.

Eng. Imad Adel, Deputy Dean for students Affairs, elaborated on student support services and academic advising and explained academic suspension regulations.

Dr. Nitham Oodeh, English Language Basic Sciences and Humanities Department head presented details on General Foundation Program. He said students give placement exam and according to their score students are placed in level 1, 2 or 3. He said students get a chance to enhance their English language skill, communication skills, basics of computers and Math.

Academic department heads Dr. Reem Swaifi, Fine Arts Department, Dr. Sherif Jalal, Graphic Design Department, Dr. Sohair Hegazi, Architecture and Interior Design Department Head, Ms. Hiyam Al Shamali, Fashion Design Department enlightened students on each major separately giving details on program objectives, structure and job opportunities for graduates.

Dr. Awatif Al Samarai, Student counselor explained on the services rendered to students in their different stages of study. She said to motivate students and to handle any stress students face she offers students different presentations. She asked students to be in communication with his/her academic advisor to discuss on academic issues and she would counsel them on other issues.

Ms. Khadija Al Balushi, Nurse explained students on the facilities and medical equipment available at SCD clinic. She informed them clinic is open from 8:00 am till 3:00 pm. She said students residing at SCD hostel get any medical attention needed 24 hours. She informed students to educate students on hygiene she offers presentations and lectures to students.

Ms. Jokha Al- Ramadani, President of Students Advisory Council (SAC) and Ms. Ruba Al Hanai, Vice President delivered a speech welcoming their juniors and explained importance of having SAC, different activities organized by the council and sub committees in the council.Orientation Program ended by taking students on college tour accompanied by Department heads and instructors. It was been informed to students that they get Students Manual, ID cards in their classrooms. Further, Eng. Imad mentioned orientation program for freshman students will be extended till end of the fall semester, with different activities and meetings as follows:

  • Activate students’ accounts over the internal network (intranet) and their e-mails during their first computer lecture.
  • Introduce students to the intranet during the second week of October, and how to make use of all data and programs.
  • Meeting with freshman students to illustrate all important points mentioned in the student manual in October.
  • Workshop on student registration module and library resources during October and November.
  • Meeting with Admission and Registration Department head explaining students how to calculate the semester GPA and the total GPA, and all related procedures to academic and scholarship rules in November.
  • Presentations given by Student Counselor.
  • Details on SCD hostel to students residing in hostel and rules and regulations to be followed during their stay at SCD hostel.

The Scientific College of Design wants to congratulate Dr. Soheir Hegazy on her successful participation in the Six National Symposium on Engineering Final Year Projects held on 4th May at the University of Nizwa.  The Scientific Committee accepted Dr. Soheir’s research titled:

“CONTINUITY AND CHANGE OF MUSCAT HOUSE

INFLUENCING FACTORS AND RESPONSE”

To be published in the conference procedures without changes.

Mr. Fakhri Al Najjar has participated in the Fifth International Conference for Arabic Language with “Arabic Writing between Foundation and Creativity”

 

Mr. Fakhri Al Najjar has participated in the Fifth International Conference for Arabic Language with “Arabic Writing between Foundation and Creativity”

The research was presented in the International Conference that was held in Dubai 4 – 7th May, 2016.

We wish him more remarkable future achievements.
